Influenza can be divided into three types according to clinical manifestations, namely simple type, pneumonia type and poisoning type.
(1) Simple influenza
This type is the most common, with systemic poisoning symptoms as the main symptom, while respiratory symptoms are relatively mild or not obvious. At first, there is a aversion to cold, followed by high fever, headache, and overall soreness. Generally, after 2-3 days of fever, the body temperature drops, and respiratory symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and sore throat are more significant. Some patients may also experience digestive symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, and constipation. Those with mild symptoms of poisoning can recover within 1-2 days. After the symptoms of this type of patient disappear, their mental state is poor and their physical recovery is slow.
(2) Pneumonia type influenza
It is mainly common in children, the elderly, or those who are weak, sickly, or have a low immune system. At the onset, it is similar to simple influenza, but within 24 hours of onset, symptoms such as high fever, severe cough, difficulty breathing, hemoptysis, and cyanosis may occur. The course of the disease can be extended by 3-4 weeks. Blood routine examination: leukopenia and neutropenia. X-ray examination: Both lungs show scattered flocculent shadows. Sulfonamide and antibiotics are ineffective against this disease. A small number of patients may die due to heart failure or peripheral circulation failure. The mortality rate of children is relatively high.
(3) Toxic influenza
The lung lesions are not obvious, but there is damage to the nervous system and systemic vascular system, clinically accompanied by obvious symptoms of encephalitis or meningitis, such as persistent high fever and coma. Adults may experience delirium, while children may experience convulsions and signs of meningeal irritation, such as neck stiffness and positive Brucella sign. A small number of patients may experience a decrease in blood pressure or shock due to vascular and neurological disorders or adrenal hemorrhage. This type has a higher mortality rate.
