1. Quickly dehydrate and come ashore
Due to the short process of children drowning in water, they should be rescued from the river or pond as quickly as possible and brought ashore. If a child is drowning in deep water, the rescuer should lift the child’s head from the back or pull his chest to expose his face to the water, and then drag him/her ashore.
2. Pouring out hydronephrosis in the respiratory tract
After children are rescued ashore, they should immediately pour out the accumulated water in their respiratory tract to ensure smooth airway. Method one is for the rescuer to kneel on one leg; Bend the other leg up and place the drowning child prone on the bent thigh, causing their head and feet to droop. Then tremble the thighs or press the child’s back, causing the accumulated water in the respiratory tract to pour out.
Method 2 is to have the drowning child lie prone on the rescuer’s shoulder, causing their head and feet to droop. When the rescuer comes to run, they can pour out the accumulated water in their respiratory tract. At the same time as pouring water, it is necessary to use hands to remove sediment and dirt from the throat and nasal cavity of drowning children, and keep their respiratory tract unobstructed. Pay attention not to pour water for a long time to avoid delaying cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
3. For drowning individuals with weak breathing or heartbeat or just stopped, quickly perform mouth to mouth (nose) artificial respiration and perform chest external heart massage.
4. If the accident site has good medical conditions, the drowning person can be injected with cardiac stimulants and oxygen therapy.
5. After preliminary on-site rescue, if the drowning person’s breathing and heartbeat have gradually returned to normal, they can be allowed to take hot tea or other soup and lie still. Drowners who have not yet escaped danger should be promptly sent to medical institutions for further resuscitation and preventive treatment.
