Treatment after water discharge
1. For drowning patients with normal breathing and pulse, after pouring water, rinse your mouth, drink some ginger soup or hot tea, and keep warm to let the child fall asleep peacefully; If you have cough or fever, you should go to the hospital for treatment.
2. For drowning individuals with weak breathing and heartbeat or whose heartbeat has just stopped, quick mouth to mouth (nose) artificial respiration should be performed.
Method: This method is easy to operate and master, and the gas exchange capacity is large, close to or equal to the amount of gas that a normal person can breathe. The effect is very good for both adults and children.
Operation method: (1) The patient is placed in a supine position, with the chest and abdomen facing upwards. (2) The rescuer stands on the side of the patient’s head, takes a deep breath, and blows the air into the mouth of the injured person (with the mouth tightly aligned to prevent air leakage), causing inhalation. To prevent air from leaking out of the nostril, the rescuer can use one hand to pinch the nostril, then leave the mouth, release the pinched nostril, and use one hand to press the chest to help exhale. This is repeated 14-16 times per minute. If the patient has severe oral trauma or tightly closed teeth, blowing air through their nostrils (the mouth must be blocked) is called mouth to nose blowing. The strength of the rescuer’s blowing depends on the specific situation of the patient. Generally, it is most suitable for the patient’s chest to slightly bulge after blowing in the air. Between mouth to mouth, if there is gauze. Then place a layer of thick gauze or a thin handkerchief layer by layer, but be careful not to affect the entry and exit of air.
At the same time, perform chest compressions by placing the palm of the hand above the xiphoid process at the lower end of the child’s sternum (i.e. at the center of the chest), and applying pressure without excessive force, approximately 60-90 times per minute. This can promote blood flow from the heart to the entire body. Note that the ratio of heart massage to artificial respiration is 4:1.
Every minute counts, and one should not only focus on pouring water and delaying breathing and heartbeat rescue, especially when starting counting minutes. It is best to have two people to carry out the rescue work, so that artificial respiration and chest massage can be performed simultaneously. If there is only one person, the two tasks need to be rotated, that is, chest massage should be performed 3 to 5 times for each artificial respiration. Artificial respiration and heart massage should continue until the heartbeat appears and there is automatic breathing, and actively contact the nearest medical unit for rescue.
