After being bitten by a pet, whether to get vaccinated or not depends on the following two aspects: first, look at what kind of pet has bitten you. Bite your pet if:
Unlicensed dogs and dogs of unknown origin;
Allow to keep dogs, but have not been vaccinated for more than 6 months;
Crazy dogs or pets suspected of rabies. These situations require vaccination against rabies. Sometimes, even if you haven’t been bitten, you still need to get vaccinated if you’ve been scratched or licked on the mucosa. If multiple areas such as the head, neck, upper limbs, chest and back are bitten, anti rabies serum must be injected simultaneously.
The second is to check whether the vaccine has been administered correctly and how long it has been. The site of the rabies vaccine injection is within the deltoid muscle of the upper arm, and 5 doses are required throughout the entire process, including 1 dose on the day of bite, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, and 30 days. Just like using anti rabies serum, one dose should be injected on the 45th and 60th day respectively. If it has been more than 1 year since the last vaccination, the above procedure should be followed for re injection.
In addition, the wound should be treated correctly after being bitten. Wash the wound thoroughly with 3-5% soapy water, then rinse with clean water for at least 20 minutes. Do not bandage or suture the wound.
