The welding industry is not only laborious, but also carries certain risks, with the eyes being the biggest victim. If violations occur, it can lead to welding damage to the eyes. So, how can one alleviate the pain of the eyes when encountering welding damage?

Electric welding light injury to the eyes refers to the reaction of shallow inflammation of the cornea and conjunctiva caused by the exposure of ultraviolet rays contained in the strong light of electric welding light and mercury lamps. It is commonly seen in eye injuries after electric welding, ultraviolet lamps, and advanced power sources. Clinical manifestations include a foreign body sensation in both eyes, severe pain, accompanied by photophobia, tearing, and eye spasms. Especially at night, it is important to not fall asleep and can generally heal on its own after 24 hours.

Emergency measures for eye injuries caused by welding light

The first step is to close your eyes and apply a cold water towel to them, changing them every 20 minutes.

Step 2, use fresh milk (preferably fresh human milk, if not, use fresh milk instead) to drip into the eyes, every 2 hours.

Step three, to prevent infection, use chloramphenicol eye drops, erythromycin eye ointment, and other eye drops.

It should be noted that fresh milk, eye drops, and ointment should not be dripped at the same time, and there should be intervals between them. Generally, they will recover within 1-3 days after onset of the disease and will not cause permanent damage. However, do not be injured by ultraviolet radiation multiple times or for a long time to avoid chronic blepharitis.

The following should also be achieved:

1. Dripping boiled and cooled human milk or fresh milk into the eyes can relieve pain and protect the eyes. And apply a damp and cold towel to both eyes, which can be changed every 20 minutes.

2. Close your eyes and rest to reduce light stimulation and eye movement friction. Wearing sunglasses can provide shade and make the eyes feel comfortable.

3. Add 3-5 drops of 0.1% adrenaline eye drops to 10 milliliters of 0.25% chloramphenicol eye drops, and apply antibiotics or sulfonamide ointment to prevent infection and reduce inflammation.

Reminder: Friends engaged in welding should follow the procedures, and more importantly, wearing protective eye masks can better prevent eye injuries caused by welding.
