Premature ejaculation is the most common symptom of male sexual dysfunction, second only to impotence, and is also the most misunderstood issue of normal sexual function.

According to American sexologist Kinsey’s survey of 5300 men in the 1930s, 75% of them ejaculated 2 minutes after insertion. Qin Yunfeng once investigated 234 elderly couples, of which 43 had less than 2 minutes of sexual intercourse, accounting for 18.4%. Maizhi et al. investigated 65 males aged 18-73 in 1990, and there was no time limit to the survey. They recorded any instances of premature ejaculation at any time in their lives. The results showed that 65% of individuals had experienced premature ejaculation at different times. Lawman et al. also investigated 1422 males aged 18-58 in 1994 and had a well-designed scientific research, finding that 29% of them had experienced premature ejaculation. This statistical estimate is relatively reasonable. This indicates that both abroad and domestically, premature ejaculation is the most common male sexual dysfunction.

Different people have different understandings of premature ejaculation, and the meaning of premature ejaculation shared by each patient is very confusing. The diagnostic criteria for premature ejaculation vary greatly, and a globally accepted definition of premature ejaculation has not yet been reached. A study by foreign sexologist Fischer shows that only 27% of women often reach orgasm in less than one minute of sexual intercourse, while 66% of women require more than 12 minutes of sexual intercourse to reach orgasm. Fischer advocates that women need an average of about 8 minutes of sexual intercourse to reach orgasm frequently. Therefore, some people have criticized the definition of premature ejaculation proposed by the renowned American sexologists Masters and Johnson. The couple believes that “half of the time during sexual activity, men should not extend their ejaculation time in order to bring their spouse to orgasm.” This criterion of judging whether a man has premature ejaculation based on their spouse’s sexual satisfaction or whether they can reach orgasm is obviously too strict and the difference is too large, which will cause a large number of men to face the embarrassment of “premature ejaculation disease”, so it is unscientific. It will further reduce men’s self-esteem, damage marital relationships, and affect sexual harmony.

According to a survey conducted by American sexologist Gilberhard on 1000 couples, the average duration of sexual intercourse is 4-7 minutes. Chinese sexologist Lv Debin surveyed 2709 people, including 470 young people and 2239 elderly people. He found that the majority of them had sexual intercourse lasting 5-6 minutes, 3-4 minutes, 7-8 minutes, and 10 minutes, each accounting for about 20%. Qin Yunfeng investigated the situation of elderly people, and found that half of them were shorter than 4 minutes and half were longer than 5 minutes. After rough statistics, the duration of sexual intercourse was about 7 minutes.

But what most people say about premature ejaculation actually refers to premature ejaculation, which cannot reach such a long time. So, to what extent is premature ejaculation considered premature ejaculation?

At present, most experts and scholars believe that premature ejaculation occurs when a man’s erect penis is not inserted into the woman’s vagina during sexual intercourse, or just before or just after insertion, causing the penis to contract and become soft, preventing sexual intercourse from continuing. Some people also believe that premature ejaculation occurs when the penis enters the vagina and ejaculates within less than a minute while in motion, or when the penis twitches less than 15 times inside the vagina. In short, premature ejaculation manifests as premature and rapid ejaculation after erection for a certain period of time, which affects sexual activity and sexual satisfaction for both parties. However, it is worth pointing out that ejaculation that can last for more than 1 minute but cannot maintain a woman’s pleasure climax is mostly due to poor understanding, harmony, and coordination between the two parties. As long as the man is not alone or does not show care and love for the woman, it must be due to inexperienced sexual experience, lack of understanding of coordination secrets, or lack of mastery of sexual techniques.

In addition, it is not possible to determine whether a man has premature ejaculation based on whether the woman has experienced sexual pleasure. This is because the acquisition of sexual pleasure by the woman is also related to various other factors, such as the woman’s emotions, the man’s caresses, post event warmth, and the position of sexual intercourse. As for the duration of sexual intercourse, it is closely related to age, physical strength, sexual experience, sexual position, penile twitching amplitude, frequency, and female sexual response. Even if the same person ejaculates at different rates during each sexual intercourse, such as having sex for the first time after marriage, reuniting after a long separation, or having sexual intercourse for the first time after abstinence, it is completely normal for the man to ejaculate quickly or even premature ejaculation due to excessive excitement. There is no need to worry too much, as the frequency of sexual intercourse increases, it will adjust to normal levels. Through the improvement of sexual ability training, both parties can strengthen close cooperation and achieve mutual satisfaction and harmonious sexual life.
