Children are a relatively immature group in terms of reaction and physical aspects, so they are prone to accidental injuries. So, how should parents provide first aid when facing these injuries? What are the different first aid methods for accidental injuries? Let’s take a look together below.

Burns

After this situation occurs, the first thing to do is to immediately cool the burned area. The method is for parents to rinse the child’s burned area with cold water for 10-30 minutes, or soak it in cold water and apply ice until there is no pain, and then send it to the hospital for further treatment as soon as possible.

Doctors remind that it is necessary to cut or take off clothes after the wound cools down; Do not give children water to drink; Do not puncture the blisters on the wound and apply potions or ointments randomly.

Food suffocation

After a child’s respiratory tract is blocked by a foreign object, parents should first check their mouth and try to remove the foreign object; If a child can still speak, cry, cough and cooperate with adult instructions, they should be encouraged to cough hard and try to cough up foreign objects; If it is a small infant or toddler, parents can also lift it upside down and pat its back and chest repeatedly until foreign objects are expelled or emergency personnel arrive; If a foreign object falls into the deep respiratory tract, the child should be sent to a hospital with ear, nose, and throat specialties as soon as possible for surgery to remove the foreign object.

Falling injury

If a child accidentally falls from a high place, parents should first check if there is any obvious trauma to the injured area. If there is bleeding or unclear consciousness, they should immediately go to the hospital. If there is no bleeding or trauma when falling from furniture such as tables or stools, but only some redness, swelling or bruising, parents can observe for 3 days on their own. If there is no nausea, vomiting or other symptoms, just apply some topical medication.

Electric shock

Once a child is electrocuted, parents should move them to a well ventilated area, unbutton their clothes and pants, and keep their respiratory tract unobstructed; If a child’s heartbeat or breathing stops, they should adhere to long-term artificial respiration and cardiac compressions; When conditions permit, wrap the electrocuted area with Vaseline gauze or saline gauze, and then send it to the hospital for further treatment. It should be noted that before giving first aid, parents should quickly turn off the switch, cut off the power, and never use their hands to directly pull the electrocuted child or wire.

Bited by a dog

After being bitten by a dog, the wound should be immediately rinsed thoroughly with a large amount of water. It is best to spray or repeatedly pour water onto the wound with a basin. If necessary, go to the hospital to clean and remove some of the wound. In addition, rabies vaccine should be administered within 24 hours after injury.
