During the long holiday, many people will go out for tourism, and it is inevitable to indulge in local specialties, making it easy to choke on food. So, what should I do when choking on food? The editor has a clever trick.

1、 Younger individuals

1. Small and hard foods, such as candy, nuts, etc.

1) Bend one leg, press the knee against the child’s heart, face down, and vigorously pat the child’s back.

2) If you still cannot vomit, please lift the child from behind and face down; Use your fist to press against the child’s chest and then squeeze.

3) If you find that breathing is still difficult, your face and body are turning purple, please call an ambulance as soon as possible. And apply artificial respiration before the ambulance arrives.

2. Soft and sticky foods, such as rice cakes, gummies, etc.

1) Let the child lie on their side.

2) Ask the child to open their mouth, and if you can see something choking in their throat, use your fingers to pick it out.

3) If you can’t see it, you can use your index finger to press down on the back of your child’s tongue to help induce vomiting.

4) Hamlick method

① Standing behind the baby, wrap your arms around the baby’s waist and abdomen, clench your fist with one hand, press your thumb against the midpoint of the line connecting your heart and navel, and overlap your other hand with the clenched hand, vigorously squeezing your upper abdomen upwards and inwards. Squeeze quickly and forcefully, then relax and repeat the operation until the foreign object is removed.

② The baby curls up with their knees bent, facing the rescuer. The rescuer presses their knees and thighs against the baby’s chest, and uses their palm roots to continuously and forcefully tap the spine in the scapular area four times to expel the foreign object.

2、 Older individuals

1. Middle and upper abdominal compression method

If the patient is older, still conscious, and able to stand, the rescuer should wrap their arms around their abdomen from behind, with their thumbs facing the patient’s upper abdomen and one hand gripping the other hand to forcefully impact and compress the abdomen, repeatedly.

2. Riding and pushing the abdomen method

If the patient falls into a coma, immediately dial 120 while lying on their back. The rescuer rides on the patient, placing the palms of both hands slightly above the navel of the abdominal midline, and rapidly impacting the head direction with force 5 times. If the foreign body is not coughed up, repeat the impact several times.

3. Back tapping method

First, ask the patient to bend down as much as possible, lower their head as much as possible, and then use the palm of their hand to continuously pat the back to promote the expulsion of foreign objects.
