Although we have taken fire prevention measures in our daily lives, we still need to learn first aid when a fire burns. Of course, besides fire, there are also some chemicals that can cause burns to people. So, how should burns be treated?
What is the first aid for burns?
1. Quickly rescue the injured from the burn environment, prevent sustained burns, and reduce the severity of burns. Remove the clothes from the burn area, move gently and do not forcefully pull or tug to avoid touching the wound and causing pain to the injured person. If burned by chemicals, rinse with plenty of water to clean the wound.
2. Check if the injured person is breathing normally. If unconscious, to prevent vomiting or blood clots from blocking the respiratory tract, tilt the injured person’s head to one side. If there is difficulty breathing, a tracheotomy operation should be performed, which requires experienced personnel to complete.
3. Use clean clothes and sheets for simple bandaging to protect the injured area.
4. Comfort and encourage the injured, stabilize their emotions, and avoid panic and irritability; Oral administration of analgesic drugs such as Sanqi powder, Yunnan Baiyao, or Somitong tablets, and in severe cases, the use of pethidine or morphine can prevent shock.
5. Send the injured to the hospital as soon as possible, with dedicated personnel to supervise the transportation process. If pneumothorax, fractures, shock, etc. occur, timely treatment should be taken.
The treatment of burns is a protracted battle, as the burn process is divided into three stages: shock, infection, and repair. Therefore, the treatment principles for the three stages are shock prevention, infection prevention, and nutritional support.
